Study Options

We offer flexible learning options so learners can get the most out of our expert trainers and fit study into their busy schedules.

We offer a mix of self-paced online and in-person learning, with face-to-face training at our Spring Hill training rooms.

Duration

The Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) can take up to 12 months to complete (possibility of earlier completion dependent on learner ability and other factors). Learners should expect to spend approximately 14 hours a week on study (not including work placement).

First Aid courses and stand-alone units can take up to 1-2 days to complete, though it may take learners up to a week dependent on ability and other time commitments.

Work Placement

The Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) requires a minimum of 120 hours of work placement.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Any recent relevant work experience in aged care (or similar fields) may reduce the duration of study via the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process.

How do I enrol?

What are the entry requirements for Certificate III in Individual Support?

There are no entry requirements, though the following will be helpful:
– Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills required to study at this level
– Level of fitness that allows the undertaking of physical tasks involved in day-to day work
– Access to the internet or a computer
– Basic computer skills using Microsoft Word, the internet and downloading and uploading documents

How long does the First Aid Course take?

Our First Aid course involves a half-day practical session completed in our Spring Hill training rooms. Before the session, you are required to pass a knowledge component. The knowledge component is completed at home in your own time.

How long does the CPR course take?

Our CPR course involves a 3-hour practical session completed in our Spring Hill training rooms. Before the session, you are required to pass a knowledge component. The knowledge component is completed at home in your own time.

What is the RPL process?

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is where your prior experience can be assessed via multiple means, including your past qualifications and experience, through interviewing and verbal or written questionnaires, an evidence portfolio, practical demonstration of your skills, and talking with your recent supervisors to confirm your skills. Any evidence you provide can be useful and will help determine the result of your RPL application. Once assessed, any relevant skills and qualifications can count as credit towards your studies with Contal Training Services.

What type of support is there for LLN needs?

Please contact us directly to discuss support for Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) needs.

Do you offer courses fully online?

No. Some of the units of competency for Cert III in Individual Support can be completed remotely, however most courses require training and practical assessment to be completed face-to-face.

Do I need a USI to undertake training with Contal?

Yes. It is a requirement that all learners undertaking nationally recognised training have a 10-digit Unique Student Identifier (USI). If you don’t have a USI, we can facilitate your application for one.
